One Dead, Five Injured in Delmar Crash

Delmar, Delaware (August 8, 2017) – An unidentified was on Friday evening killed in a two-car crash east of Delmar.

According to Delaware State Police, the crash occurred at about 6:45 p.m. August 4 at the intersection of Pepperbox Road and Whitesville Road.

32-year-old Mario Martinez-Jimenez was driving a 2002 Ford Expedition southbound on Pepperbox Road approaching a stop sign at the intersection with Whitesville Road when he failed to stop and was hit by a 2011 Ford F-150 being driven by a 75-year-old man from Laurel.

The impact caused both cars to rollover severally with The Expedition finally overturning onto its right side on the road.

The victim, an unidentified man who was seating on the rear passenger seat of the Expedition was pronounced dead at the scene. The police have determined that the man was not properly restrained at the time of the crash.

Four other passengers in the Expedition were taken to hospitals in the locality where they were treated for minor injuries. One man, however, was later flown to Baltimore Shock and Trauma Hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the Ford F-150, who was properly restrained, was transported by ambulance to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released.

The police suspect that impairment on the part of Martinez-Jimenez caused the crash. The crash is still being investigated and charges are expected.
