One Killed and Another Hospitalized in Wilmington Box Truck Crash on South Market Street
Wilmington, Delaware (July 27, 2017) – A driver died, and a passenger was seriously injured when a two-vehicle collision occurred Wednesday morning in Wilmington, a local news source reported.
Authorities reported that a box truck and an SUV collided with each other at around 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, July 26 on South Market Street.
Firefighters were called to extricate a victim who was trapped in one of the vehicles. Within 15 minutes after arrival, they had freed all victims to safety.
Unfortunately, the driver of the SUV died in the incident, and a passenger was listed in critical condition. The victim was airlifted to Christiana Hospital for treatment.
As a result of the impact, the saddle tank on the truck ruptured and diesel fuel spilled into the street.
Officials closed down South Market Street at Martin Luther King Boulevard. All traffic was diverted eastbound on Martin Luther King Boulevard.
