2 Killed and 1 Hospitalized in Fatal Georgetown Collision on US 9
Georgetown, Delaware (August 7, 2017) – The Delaware State Police Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash in which two vehicles collided in Georgetown.
According to police, 57-Year-Old George C. Hassett of Seaford and 76-Year-Old Katherine E. Chick were identified as the victims who died in the two-vehicle collision.
The crash happened at 1:12 p.m. Friday, August 4 on US 9 also known as County Seat Highway just east of the intersection of CR 444 also known as Tyndall Road.
Hasset was driving a 2000 Oldsmobile Bravada westbound on US 9. The vehicle crossed the double yellow line and entered the eastbound lane of the highway and into the path of a 1994 Chrysler LeBaron driven by Chick.
Chick swerved to the right while attempting to avoid the collision but unfortunately the two vehicles collided almost head-on. The two vehicles stopped in the roadway.
Both drivers were well restrained in their seats at the time of the crash. Unfortunately, they were declared dead at the scene. A passenger in the Oldsmobile only identified as a 45-year-old woman was transported to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.
It is not yet known why Hasset crossed the yellow line leading to the crash.
Authorities continue to collect information about the collision.
