Four, Including Child, Injured in Newark 2-Car Crash on Christina Parkway

Newark, Delaware (July 28, 2017) – Four people, including a child, were injured Tuesday evening in a major crash involving two vehicles in Newark, according to a police report.

The accident took place at about 6:45 p.m. on Christina Parkway (Route 4) Between South College Avenue and Elkton Road.

According to Newark Police Department, Porsche Edgerton, a 29-year-old Bear Woman, was driving a 2014 Chevy Impala westbound on Christina Parkway toward Elkton Road when she tried to use the should of the road to pass a car traveling in front of her, police said. Edgerton’s vehicle struck a guardrail, and she lost control of her car. The car veered into the oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a 2005 Dodge Magnum.

The impact caused the Dodge to careen through a fence before rolling about 40 Feet down a hill.

Responding units found a total of four patients trapped in the two vehicles. It took the crews about 40 minutes to extricate the 35-year-old driver of the Magnum from the wreck.

An ambulance transported the Magnum driver, Edgerton and a 42-year-old passenger in Edgerton’s car to Christiana Hospital with unspecified injuries.

A 12-year-old boy who was a passenger in the Magnum was airlifted to A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children with unspecified injuries.

As per the report, Edgerton was cited for driving recklessly and passing a vehicle on the right.

The incident remains under investigation.
