Camden, Delaware (August 3, 2017) – Five people were hospitalized following a four-vehicle accident in Camden on Wednesday morning, according to police.
The accident occurred at around 9:45 a.m. on South DuPont Highway near Thomas Harmon Drive at the Wal-Mart entrance.
A man identified as Calvin L. Anderson, 66, of Gales Ferry, Connecticut, was driving a 2003 Freightliner Century ST, pulling a trailer Northbound in the right lane of the South DuPont Highway (U.S. 13) approaching Thomas Harmon Drive, as per police.
State police spokesman said that Anderson could not see the traffic in front of him stopping at the red light and crashed into the back of a trailer attached to a 1997 Dodge Ram pickup truck.
The Dodge moved forward and hit the rear of a 2013 Mercedes Benz GLK350 sports utility car as a result of the impact. The tractor-trailer veered into the left lane and hit the rear of a 2008 Ford Escape then redirected back to the right lane hitting the trailer and pickup truck and the pickup again.
The tractor burned up.
Anderson was not injured and was cited for inattentive driving, according to police.
The Dodge driver, 29, was taken to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital where he was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.
Ford Escape driver, 50, was also hospitalized at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital with her two passengers and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The Mercedes-Benz driver, 71, was also treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
