Alfonzo Cruz and Two Others Injured in New Castle County Crash
Newark, Delaware (August 13, 2017) – Three people were hospitalized following a multi-car rollover incident in Newark on Wednesday, according to Delaware State Police.
The accident took place on August 9, southbound on Del. 1 north of Christiana Road in New Castle County.
Police mentioned that a 2014 Dodge Ram driver identified as Alfonzo Cruz, 39, from Elkton, Maryland, was traveling southbound when traffic in front of him came to an abrupt stop as debris was on the roadway.
Cruz failed to stop and hit the rear of a 2008 BMW 528i driven by a 32-year-old Dover man. Cruz was then struck from behind by a Bear woman driving a 1999 Toyota 4-Runner.
A Middletown man, 51, driving a 2017 Rexall tractor trailer crashed into the Toyota making it crash into the rear of the Dodge again, as per authorities.
The Dodge then became airborne and overturned before stopping in the roadway.
Cruz was trapped in his car until fire department personnel arrived and rescued him. He was then treated at the crash site by New Castle County Paramedics then taken by ambulance to Christianna Hospital with injuries described as not- life threatening.
The driver of the BMW and the Toyota Operator were properly restrained during the crash and were treated at the crash site then taken to Christiana Hospital with injuries also described as non-life threatening.
Cruz was cited for following traffic too closely.
The wreck was still under an investigation.
